Here I am putting my bold, high-contrast pieces consisting mainly of single characters or phrases. In traditional East Asian philosophy, ki (or qi in Chinese) is the invisible energy that flows through all living things. In Japanese calligraphy, ki is the invisible bridge between the artist's internal state and the external physical stroke. Ultimately, mastering Japanese calligraphy is not just about mastering the brush; it is about cultivating, controlling, and expressing the power of ki.
Japanese kanji character 旅 which embodies this spirit of non-attachment—accepting that everything is transient and finding peace in the constant flow of change.
The true meaning of a journey lies in being entirely present for every single step. The 17th-century haiku master Matsuo Bashō famously began his travelogue The Narrow Road to the Deep North by stating, "The months and days are the travelers of eternity. The years that come and go are also voyagers." In this view, life itself is a continuous state of travel.
